Although the Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Program does not have a specific college domain, at QHHS we felt it was essential to break it out in order to meet the needs of our students.  The majority of the students at QHHS are college bound students whether they end up going straight to college or not, they leave with the college option available to them.

The college domain covers information such as:

bullet

Completing college applications

bullet

Entrance requirements

bullet

Financial aid information

bullet

Scholarship information

bullet

Testing requirements

The College Counselor addresses these topics at different times throughout the year.  The topics are either presented by the counselors in the classroom or career center or by guest speakers invited to share information during the school day or the evening so that parents may also attend.  Having a specific college domain has worked well for our students.  The demand at our school is much too great to combine it with another CCBG domain.

National Merit                                                                                                                                                www.nationalmerit.org

The National Merit Scholarship Program (Merit Program) is an academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.  Students qualify based on their PSAT scores taken their junior year (11h grade).

Senior Awards

Annual awards ceremony honoring senior students for their accomplishments.  Ceremony takes place at the end of the senior year.

Career Center

The College Domain Counselor also monitors and maintains the Career Center.  She and our Career Center Technician meet the needs of students interested in researching post secondary options.

The Career Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Students can utilize the Career Center before & after school, during snack & lunch, and during class with a pass from their teacher.   The Career Center is closed 5th period.  Teachers may call ext. 183 to schedule class time in the Career Center.

There are seven computers in the Career Center that are available to use as a research tool.  All computers have Internet capability.  The student will need to have an "Internet Agreement" on file and have their ID stamped before using the Internet.

The Career Center is one of our student's greatest resources to research colleges, universities, trade/technical schools, and future career opportunities.  As always, students may sign up to attend College presentations at snack, lunch or after school.  Mrs. Hopper emails and distributes to faculty and staff hard copies of monthly calendars that list presentations and also scholarship opportunities.  The calendars are also posted in the Career Center, the Guidance Office, in the Guidance folder on Edline and links to the current calendars are both on the QHHS Website and listed below.
