Crisis Management Team

A Crisis Management team has been established to address any type of campus wide crises. The Career Center has been reserved as the focal point for administrators and counselors, and to bring students together if appropriate.

Independent Study Counselor

Currently the Head Counselor is available at the Alternative Learning Center (ALC) on Tuesdays from 1:00 – 3:30. Appointments can be scheduled at additional times if needed by contacting Mrs. Mobilia-Jones at her extension listed above.  Mrs. Mobilia-Jones works in conjunction with Mr. Richard Graff, the Lead ALC Teacher to insure students are completing the credits and courses required for graduation.

Master Schedule

The master schedule is developed based on student selection of courses via the Interest Inventory conducted each February of the prior school year.

There are a few important facts that are important to recognize:

bulletPer district policy, students cannot request teachers or specific periods for classes.
bulletClasses are apt to change within the first three weeks of school due to an increase or decrease in enrollment projections; this includes student's entire schedules possibly changing.
bulletAll changes are made by the computer randomly to level classes to meet contractual cap sizes.

Newsletters/Guidance Updates

The Head Counselor maintains an overview of Guidance Events and submits current information for inclusion in the Principal's Newsletters, in the student paper, the 'Ubiquity', and in the monthly update for the Antelope Valley Joint Union High School Board meeting.

Registration

Level changes are open to all grade levels up until the Quarter Progress report provided the proper form is completed – Teacher Initiated or Student/Parent Initiated, and there are seats available. The forms may be obtained by the teachers or can be picked up in the Guidance Office.

As a result of the new 2005-2006 school calendar year (next year school will start on August 22nd and end on June 9th)Interest Inventories will be conducted during February. We highly encourage and recommend that students consult with their parents when selecting classes. Choose classes wisely as there will be minimal changes during August Registration. Students are required to attend August Registration in order to confirm their classes. Parents and/or friends can register for a student provided they have a note from the student and know what classes and alternatives the student wants. For specific graduation requirements see QHHS requirements link.

It is important to remember that prior grades determine if a student will be eligible to proceed to the next class level. Example, to move from Spanish 1 to Spanish 2 students must have C’s or better both semesters. See Course Description Book for prerequisites.

Incoming freshman registration will be conducted in March. More specific information to follow.

Senior Supplemental Instruction

This program is designed solely for seniors who have previously failed a class or credits needed for graduation. The classes begin in October and conclude in May. A student may make up a maximum of 20 credits. Students and parents are required to sign a contract in the Guidance Office in order to be officially enrolled in the class. As stated in the contract, if the courses required are not completed, students will not graduate and cannot partake in the graduation ceremony.
